How much does it cost to attend YAIL?
There is no cost to the participants who attend YAIL. All the costs are covered by the Rotary club that sponsors the candidate. This includes the cost of food, accommodation and the registration cost for the conference
We do not usually accept applications from students that have previously attended Youth Adventures In Leadership. If you are interested in taking additional Rotary leadership training then you may be interested in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program. For more information, go to ryla5050.org.
What if I am already a self-assured Leader?
Good question! As a Leader you know that leadership, like life itself, requires constant nurturing and learning. Our successful graduates come from a background ranging from extreme shyness to confident and outgoing with involvement in their school and community.
Anything else I should know about the benefits of this event?
Yes! Most prospective employers are impacted when they see evidence of leadership skills combined with the willingness to pursue growth. Put it in your CV!
Besides having an amazing amount of ‘Fun’ you will create or renew friendships and relationships with like minded youth as you learn key skills in Networking, Planning and setting Life Goals.
Do you make arrangements for those with special needs?
Please let us know on your application form if you require any special consideration, medication, diet, physical limitations, allergies, illnesses, etc.
How do I get to YAIL?
Each candidate is responsible for transportation to and from the event. If you need assistance contact your sponsoring Rotary Club and if you still need help contact us and we will try get you into a carpool.
Crossing the US/Canada Border. What’s required?
When crossing the border you are required to provide proof of citizenship, such as a passport, enhanced driver’s license or enhanced identification. Participants must, also, have a letter of permission if not accompanied by her/his parent or guardian. This letter should include the name and contact information for the parent(s) or guardian (s) of the participant.
Should I bring my smartphone or laptop
Why not enjoy some ‘down time’ away from all devices? You’ll find it quite refreshing!
You are prohibited from using cell phones, androids, ipads or any other internet device during the program. Parents / Guardians will be able to contact the Camp Office and, if necessary, Rotarians’ cell numbers will be given out in the event of an emergency.
What do I need to bring?
Bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel and toiletries as well as an insulated travel mug.
And…bring an item that tells something about you. i.e. musical instrument, craft, hobby, special interest, vocation etc. You may wish to use the item when introducing yourself on Friday evening.

What type of clothing should I bring?
Casual clothing is suitable for all activities. You should have clothing and footwear appropriate for athletic activities, cold weather and / or rain. Sometimes outdoor activities can be very messy, some old clothes that you don’t mind getting really muddy/ruined would be a good idea.
